About Réttarholtsskóli
Réttarholtsskóli has about 450 students, most of whom come from Breiðagerðisskóli, Fossvogsskóli, and Hvassaleitisskóli. We place particular emphasis on good relationships between students, parents, and staff at the school. The school has always emphasized that students feel that the staff cares for them and respects them as individuals, but at the same time, we expect a lot from students regarding their education attendance and behavior.
Diverse education
We offer a wide variety of educational programs. Thanks to the size, we can offer a wide range of choices and try to meet the educational needs of each and every one as much as possible. Students in grades 9 and 10 have almost fully individualized schedules, choosing groups in Icelandic, mathematics, Danish, and English, as well as a wide range of creative and practical classes and sports- and fitness-related subjects. Our school has a well-equipped gymnasium with equipment hall and a school fitness circuit on the school grounds. Réttarholtsskóli is also known for its robust teaching in science and physics, and students get to know science through various experiments.
Independent work
At the end of 10th grade, students work on a large interdisciplinary final project, focusing on information gathering, processing, and delivery in various formats. The project puts emphasis on independent and creative work where students can enjoy and learn actively from projects especially related to their areas of interest.
Lunch
We serve nutritious meals. At lunchtime, teachers and school administrators take turns serving food. This is an ideal opportunity for us to get to know and connect with students in a setting other than just teaching.
Student association
Our school has a vibrant student association run in collaboration with Bústaðir Youth Center. The association organizes various events at the school, dances, and a fabulous annual celebration usually held in mid-March. It's packed with activities and parents usually serve the food; seats there usually run out fast.
Respect, activity, wellbeing
The school's motto is respect, activity, and well-being. By emphasizing this, the school underlines the belief that well-being is the foundation of success and that everyone in the school community shows and encounters respect in all interactions. But there is also students' duty to be active participants in schoolwork and teachers' duty to engage students in worthy subjects.
